Event Photography Melbourne: Inside the Launch of Own Your Life Story by Dr Lidia Lae
Last night we had the privilege of capturing one of the most beautiful and intimate events we have photographed this year. Dr Lidia Lae launched her debut book, Own Your Life Story, at Graduate House, University of Melbourne, and we were there to document every moment.
About the Event
Own Your Life Story is not simply a book to be read. It is a body of work designed to engage with — a structured approach to understanding the cultural dimensions of identity, inviting readers to create a life and legacy grounded in their deepest values.
The launch was a private, invitation-only cocktail evening held at the stunning Graduate House on Leicester Street in Carlton. Guests were welcomed into a beautifully curated setting for an evening of conversation, reflection, and genuine connection.
The evening opened with an introduction by acclaimed journalist and author Mimi Kwa, followed by a reflection on the book by Dr Wendy Cahill AM DSG PhD, before moving into a live conversation with Lidia herself. It concluded with a book signing and the kind of warm, lingering conversation that only happens when a room is full of people who care deeply about ideas.
As event photographers and content creators, we could not have asked for a more meaningful brief.
Our Role: Event Photography and Content Creation
TMSC was engaged to capture the full event: the room, the people, the atmosphere, and the moments that made the evening what it was. Our role covered event photography and social media content creation, producing a suite of images and assets that Lidia can use across her website, social media, press, and future marketing.
For an event like this, the photography brief goes beyond documenting what happened. It is about capturing the feeling of the room, the quality of the conversation, the warmth of the connections being made, and the significance of the moment. A book launch is a milestone. The photography needs to reflect that.
