How we grew our social media agency account on TikTok
I hope that by now we can all agree that TikTok is an incredible growth platform and a great way to reach a lot of potential customers for your business. If you STILL think TikTok is just for teenagers who like silly dance trends, I truly don’t know what to say to convince you!
I mean, there are 834 million people on TikTok worldwide! The platform is set to generate 18 billion in ad revenue in 2023. What more do you want or need to convince you that your business should be on that particular playing field?
As a social media agency owner, I’ve always believed it’s important for us to walk the walk when it comes to social media platforms. Who are we to convince you to trust us with your TikTok strategy if we can’t even grow our own account?
That’s why lately, even though we are insanely busy working on client work, we’ve started to put just a little bit of effort into our own TikTok. (You can follow us here btw)
I’m so happy to share that we just hit 5k followers! I know 5k might not seem like much in the scheme of things (we have 90k on Instagram - eeeek) But we’ve learnt so much over the last few weeks of posting that we wanted to share some insights with you all. To inspire you to get on there yourselves!
Tip 1 - Start with your target audience
On every social media platform, it can be tempting to post about the things we want to talk about. But it’s so important, especially on TikTok, to start with what the audience wants to see.
People’s attention spans are so short on TikTok. If you bore them or don’t capture people’s attention, they will skip your video so fast it will send the algorithm into a tailspin.
So before you even think about posting, put some real time and effort into exploring what is popular and trending with your target audience. Think about what they will want to see, and start there.
Tip 2- Experiment and post frequently
As much as we can research and strategise, sometimes it’s just impossible to predict what will work on TikTok. So come to the platform with an open mind and try different kinds of videos to see what your audience will connect with.
And most importantly, don’t be too precious about your brand. This isn’t Instagram or Pinterest, where audiences expect your content to be polished. Often, it’s the simple and low-fi content that works best on TikTok as people find it more entertaining and relatable.
Tip 3 - Find ways to add value
It’s all very well going viral and nailing a trend. But the impact on your business from doing so can be limiting. As a business, it’s important to provide value to your audience so they begin to trust you and want to buy from you. A great way to do this is to share informative content such as tips and how tos. For example, our social media hacks series has by far been our best performing content as people have frequently saved and commented on these posts - signalling to the algorithm their value.
Tip 4 - Use trending audio and try out trends
It’s really important to keep your finger on the pulse with TikTok and create the kind of content that people are passionate about in that moment. Try to consider the concept of ‘news-jacking’, creating quick topical content that relates to something people are currently obsessed with.
And don’t wait too long to post! What’s interesting today will be boring by tomorrow!
We hope these tips have inspired you to get creating on TikTok. It really is one of the lowest pressure social media platforms, so you should definitely approach it with curiosity and just try and have some fun while you’re on there.
Of course, if you don’t have time for all of this, give our friendly social media team a shout and we’d be happy to help out!
